Integration and consolidation are key issues facing IT Managers today, and the iSeries often does not fit into the corporations overall backup and recovery strategy. The iSeries Open API brings the iSeries under a central backup management umbrella. Because it is an open API, it can be integrated into any backup product, even another iSeries. Whether remote or local, the iSeries can now act as a client to another server application.

The Open Client API enables any backup server to request from
the client iSeries a list of files and libraries, initiate backups,
track the files backed up, and restore data back to the iSeries.

Incorporated into its flagship storage management product, MMS, LXI takes advantage of this unique technology to backup iSeries data:

• Centrally control iSeries backup functions via a Linux, UNIX or AIX server with MMS and gain full tape management, device management and sharing, centralized vaulting and media management over the entire enterprise
